How to migrate Workspace ONE Connector

Until Horizon DaaS 9.1.2 only Identity Manager connector 19.03.0.1 could be used to access the Virtual Apps Collections however Identity Manager connector 19.03.0.1 has been out of general support since 2022-08-31. As of September 27th Workspace ONE Access connector 22.09 has been released (release notes). This version supports Virtual Apps Collections on Horizon DaaS 9.1.4 (released October 2022). Horizon DaaS 9.1.4 and Workspace ONE Access connector 22.09 will create a supported environment again.

Impact of CIS Benchmarks on performance

During a VMWare Horizon Cloud project, the customer had the following wishes. The workspace needed fast and secure. Security is almost always at the expense of performance.

Because the customer wanted us to align with the CIS Level 1 benchmark for the Windows OS. We wanted to see what kind of impact the CIS benchmark had on the performance. In order to make de impact visible, we did a performance test with Login VSI.

VMware UEM – Unable to browse AD groups in Conditions and Condition Sets

Within VMware UEM you are able to filter out settings based on conditions. These condition can be set directly on the config or by creating a condition set and attach the condition set on the config. Some examples of conditions are Endpoint IP Address, Environment Variables, Group Membership, IP Address and a lot more.

Problem

At a customer we experienced a very strange problem. Once starting the VMware UEM Management console and changing or creating a condition or condition set. We were not able to browse the AD when selecting the condition Group Membership. The browse button was grayed out and we got the following message: Browsing for groups is only available on domain-joined computers. So the strange part is: The machine is domain joined.

Group Membership Condition

About me

My name is Niels Geursen and I work as an IT Architect.

I started my career in the year 2000. I learned about IT challenges from small to enterprise companies in the past years. In all these years I also got the opportunity to educate myself by following courses and doing exams for Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware. This led to the following certification: VCAP Desktop Management Design 2023, MCSE 2012, CCE-V, VCP6-DTM, and much more.

In June 2019 I was included in the vExpert program of VMware which was renewed ever since. I was also added to the vExpert sub-program EUC.

My experience mainly focuses on end-user computing this could be on-premises or in the cloud.

I hope you have fun reading my Blog!

Prevent users saving items on the Citrix/Terminal Server desktop.

In my current environment we allow users to save items on their desktop. Because we are using mandatory profiles we save the settings using Flex profiles from Immidio.

Lately some users are complaining that the logon times are increasing. After some investigation we came to the conclusion that the users are saving a lot of files to their Citrix/Terminal server desktop. The flex file would be around the 8 GB. My manager asked me to come up with a solution so that the users aren’t able to save files to their desktop but allow them to save shortcuts. Continue Reading

Citrix Receiver – Security Warning

When you start a Citrix Session and open an explorer window the following message appears.
Citrix Receiver – Security Warning.

This message is caused by the Citrix Receiver. The Receiver is trying map the local drives and is trying to access them.
In case of a writable profile this is not a big issue. If you choose to Permit all access the settings are saved in the registry thus in the profile. When working with mandatory profiles these setting will not be preserved. Also in a ThinClient environment this behavior is not wanted. Because this will generate some helpdesk calls.
